Closing date: 31 Jul 2016

Position Available: OR Manager

We are looking for a volunteer OR manager to work in non-profit paediatric hospital in the beautiful town of Luang Prabang, Laos. We opened the hospital in 2015 with Outpatient, Inpatients and the Emergency Department all operational. We next have plans to open our surgical unit in June/July and need some mentors for the Lao nurses to learn from.

The OR manager would work within the Laotian and international team, with the main responsibilities being clinical supervision and training. The position would ideally require a minimum of 2 month commitment, longer commitments preferred and much appreciated. Given that we would need to train the nurses for a surgical role, we are really keen to get someone out here from June onwards.

This is a unique opportunity for those looking to gain international public health & clinical experience in a developing/lesser-developed country setting. Luang Prabang is a quiet and charming tourist-friendly town along the banks of the Mekong River. There are plenty of opportunities for weekend sightseeing trips in the surrounding area.

Responsibilities

· Reviews (and helps design) the short and long term surgical plans, strategies and systems that identify and utilize available resources to efficiently manage daily operations, and accomplish goals and objectives within specific target dates with the Management Team.

· Supervises and coordinates activities of personnel in the operating room.

· Supervises the procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

· Reviews daily the proposed OR schedule.

· Assists with recruitment of Lao surgical staffing and training of employees.

· May oversee pre- and post-operative care of patients.

Qualifications

· Requires a bachelor's degree in Nursing and 3-5 years of experience in operating theatre.

· Management experience preferred.

· Experience in low resource settings is an asset.

Benefits

This is a volunteer position with a preferred 1 month minimum commitment up to 6+months. A small monthly allowance can be provided to help cover some basic costs such as food & housing for commitments of 2+ months. The role is required to be filled throughout the year and as such applications will be accepted for various time throughout the year.

How to apply:

Please email a cover letter and resume to LFHC@fwablaos.org with the subject "OR manager".
