Primarily working at the Friends Visitor Center, the Development Director will be the intermediary between Lao Friends Hospital for Children and the public. S/he will oversee local fundraising and development needs for the hospital; create and maintain relationships with visitors, donors, and supporters of Lao Friends Hospital for Children; and work with the HR department on coordination of the hospital’s volunteer program.

The Development Director works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Lao Friends Hospital for Children and coordinates with the Development Directors in Friends Without A Border’s U.S. and Japan offices.

Key job functions and responsibilities

A.Friends Visitor Center (FVC) – Daily Operations

· Oversee two staff of the FVC, create work plans, and help train them to share LFHC’s mission with walk-in visitors

· Maintain inventory of shop items to benefit LFHC and seek opportunities to expand the range. Oversee and help curate the photo gallery at FVC; reach out to local artists with possible collaborative event ideas/opportunities at the FVC

· Ensure information displays and digital media are up-to-date and of interest to visitors

· Track visitor and donation statistics at the FVC, create targets, and seek out opportunities to continually increase traffic to the visitors center while educating the public about LFHC’s mission

· Work with the FVC staff and HR Officer to ensure the success of LFHC’s volunteer program so that medical volunteers have a hassle-free arrival and can transition easily to the local environment

B.Fundraising and Development/PR

· Continually work to increase the FVC’s profile in the local community and abroad, making it a hub for fundraising, education about LFHC and the healthcare system in Laos. Create regular events (monthly or bi-monthly) that serve to spread awareness, create networking opportunities, and bring in additional funding for LFHC

· Help research possible grant opportunities and work with the development directors in U.S. and Japan, as well as the management team of LFHC, to apply for grants as relevant and appropriate

· Assume the main responsibility for organizing the annual Luang Prabang Half Marathon, including securing sponsors, working with 3rd party partners (e.g. event and timing management), marketing and publicity of both the race and LFHC, and managing local race logistics

· Seek to develop potential corporate funding sources for LFHC

· Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors on fundraising, grants, and development initiatives from within Laos

· Work with the development directors in the U.S. and Japan to create marketing and informational materials for the FVC and LFHC, and to promote the organization through social media

· Seek partnerships with local hotels and tour companies who can help spread the word about LFHC to the larger community of tourists and visitors to Luang Prabang

· Develop and work with a local “Advisory Committee” to enhance organizational reputation locally in Luang Prabang

C.Donor Relations

· Work closely with the development directors in the U.S. and Japan to liaise with VIPs and give tours of LFHC as is needed or required

· Serve as the first and main point of contact on the ground in Laos for major or long-term donors and maintain follow-up communication as relevant

· Seek ways to cultivate and grow a donor base in Asia, especially with communities in Hong Kong and Singapore
